TRAINING

Training Programs

Completely customized strategies and support for dog owners, to help create significant results.

The best result, in my opinion, is being able to include your dog in your life, in all the ways that you want.

PRIVATE IN-HOME TRAINING SESSION - 1.5 hours
  • I come to you, wherever your dog's challenges are - your home, around your neighbourhood, the park, the Veterinary office, riding in the car - I deal in real life situations.

  • This is hands-on training for your dog, as well as you and your family.

  • Sessions begin with an assessment of your dog's behaviour.

  • A custom training plan is created based on your family's specific goals.

  • I make you the expert on your dog - I teach you how to read your dog's body language & energy, what to look for, and how to prevent unwanted behaviours.

  • This is ideal for managing:

    • behavioural challenges - over excitement/ hyper activity, nervousness, insecurity

    • pulling on the leash/ loose leash walking

    • crate training/ potty training

    • nipping

    • counter surfing

    • unwanted barking

    • reactivity to noises/ dogs/ people

    • destructive behaviour - chewing, digging

    • specific triggers, eg. skateboards, bicycles, mail deliveryman

  • Follow up support via phone and email is included to ensure your continued success after a Training Session.

DAY TRAINING - full or half day
  • Your dog is trained, in your home, with your rules, while you are at work.  You come home to a tired dog, that has been learning good behaviours all day!

  • This is ideal for:

    • Owners looking for an alternative to traditional doggy daycare.

    • Owners who want to jump start their dogs' training - 'step in' to a well training and well behaved dog.

    • All dogs - even those with behaviour challenges!  These can be worked on during a Day Training Program.

  • A custom training plan is created based on your family's specific goals.  At a session with you and your family, you are coached on how to smoothly transition leadership and achieve the same behaviours that are being taught to your dog during the day.

  • Day Training is fun yet structured, and includes rest time, so dogs learn calm skills as well.  The focus is on general household manners, basic obedience, socialization, loose leash walking, and outdoor adventures (including riding in the car).

  • Available for a single day, or as part of a custom 2 week/ 3 week/ or 4 week Program.

  • Follow up support via phone and email is included to ensure your continued success, both during and after any Day Training Program.

Custom Programs:

HAVING A BABY
  • Designed for expectant parents, who already have a dog.

  • 1 hour In-Home Planning Session before your baby arrives.

  • Learn what to expect & how to set up your dog, your new baby and whole family for success (before the exhaustion of childbirth and parenting a new born sets in).

  • Any behaviour challenges can be addressed at this point, before the baby is born.

  • I am "on call" when your delivery starts and take care of everything for your dog for the next 48 hours.  You and your partner can focus on bringing baby into the world, while knowing that your dog's physical and mental needs are being fulfilled.  This is an easy way to help reduce your stress.  Welcome your new baby home to a calm, confident, relaxed dog.

  • 2 x 1 hour follow up Sessions - these can be spaced out anytime within 6 months.  Ideal for helping you and your dog adapt to new challenges as your baby grows.  Topics can include: loose leash walking with your dog and stroller, greeting visitors in your home, how to introduce your dog to other children, teaching your child how to interact with dogs, unwanted barking, stealing baby's food/toys.

  • 5 x 30 min. follow up question and answer Sessions via phone.

NEW PUPPY
  • Designed for puppy owners, and people planning to get a puppy.

  • 1 hour In-Home Planning Session, either before you bring your puppy home - this can include guidance in selecting the right puppy to join your family - or for current puppy owners, as soon as possible.

  • Often owners ask me "at what age can I start training my puppy?"  Puppies start learning immediately, whether you are actively training them or not.

  • Learn how to create the behaviours you want, and positively reinforce them, before unwanted behaviours appear.

  • Together we will create a training plan that sets a strong foundation for your puppy, and uses cognitive developmental milestones to create a well behaved dog. We will work on house breaking, crate training, walking nicely on a leash, socializing with people and other dogs, and introduction to obedience.

  • 4 x 30 min. follow up Sessions - short, frequent sessions are ideal for puppies because they grow and change so quickly.

  • 5 x 30 min. follow up question and answer Sessions via phone.

ADDING A PACK MEMBER
  • Designed for current dog owners, who are adding another dog to their 'pack'.

  • 1 hour In-Home Planning Session before you bring home your 2nd dog - this can include guidance in selecting the right dog to join your family.

  • Learn what to expect & how to set up all your dogs for success.

  • Step-by-step coaching on how to introduce your current and new dogs to each other.

  • 2 x 1 hour follow up Sessions - this can include hands on support while making the introduction of dogs to each other and to your home.

  • 3 x 30 min. follow up question and answer Sessions via phone.

MOVING / CONDO TRANSITION
  • Designed for dog owners who are moving to a new home or downsizing into a condo or apartment building.

  • 1 hour In-Home Planning Session in your current home before the move.

  • Moving can be an exciting change for humans, and comes with lots of new experiences for dogs - elevators, parking gates and garages, new dogs in the neighbourhood, possibly less frequent access to outside in a downsizing situation.

  • Learn what to expect & how to set up your dog and whole family for success in your new home.

  • 1 hour Session in your new home - I work hands on with your dog, introducing him/her to your new home, and supporting with the creation and maintenance of rules and boundaries.  You and your family will practice reinforcing the behaviours during our in-person session, ensuring you can continue repeating the success.

  • 1 hour follow up Session

  • 2 x 30 min. follow up question and answer Sessions via phone.

Not sure which is right for you?  All good.  Let's chat and figure it out.
